City Welcomes New Parks & Recreation Director

April 7, 2026  —Megan Big John has joined the City’s executive team as the new Director of Parks and Recreation, City Manager Jeanna Troha announced today.

With more than 20 years of relevant experience in the public sector, Big John oversees the City's expansive network of parks and open spaces, as well as the City’s recreational programs, camps and community events. She leads a dedicated team of parks and recreation professionals committed to providing recreational opportunities for Wilsonville residents of all ages and backgrounds.

“Megan’s diverse background and collaborative spirit make her a perfect fit for this community.  She is passionate about creating experiences that bring people joy through parks and recreation,” Troha said.

Most recently, Big John served as Parks and Recreation Director for the City of West Linn. Prior to that, she spent 14 years with the City of Lake Oswego (2009-23), where she began in park maintenance before ascending to Parks Manager. In that capacity, she oversaw park maintenance, habitat improvement, staffing, and long-range planning while contributing to capital park development projects.

Big John holds a bachelor’s degree in Horticulture from Oregon State University. She is actively involved in the Oregon Recreation and Parks Association, currently serving as its president after having served as Director at Large (2020-24) and President of the Maintenance and Construction Section (2016-20).

“I am honored to join the Wilsonville Parks and Recreation team,” Big John said. “Parks and Recreation play such an important role in creating spaces and opportunities for people to come together, stay active and feel connected to their community. I’m excited to be a part of the team who brings those services to Wilsonville.”

Two Named to Interim Roles on Executive Team

Following Troha’s transition to City Manager last week, she announced two interim staffing assignments to provide additional executive team support for City staff.

Steve Rymer, who joined the City in November as interim Parks and Recreation Director, is serving as interim Assistant City Manager. Public Works Director Delora Kerber is also serving as interim Community Development Director, a position Troha held for the past year before moving into her current role.
